Malaysia's very first Chinese-language film awards

Local Chinese films get their own platform to shine.

IN a week’s time, Malaysia will be rolling out its very first Chinese-language film awards.

Organised by the Chinese Film Association of Malaysia (CFAM), the First Golden Wau Awards (GWA 2013) will take place at Pullman Hotel Kuala Lumpur Bangsar on Oct 15.

In a press conference held earlier today, CFAM chairman Adrian Teh unveiled the slick black trophy of the awards.

The final judging panel includes Wen Tien Hsiang (Golden Horse Awards Executive Committee CEO ), Ho Wi Ding (Golden Horse Awards 2010 Best New Director), Tian Kai Leong (Hong Kong Film Awards 2007 Best Screenplay), Lorna Tee (film producer and international film consultant) and Sophia Hu (China-born actress).

Prominent local emcees TP Lim and Siow Hui Mei will be hosting the awards ceremony.

Celebrity guests who have confirmed their attendance include Hong Kong’s Eric Tsang, Oxide Pang, Kara Hui, and Elanne Kwong; Singapore’s Mark Lee and Henry Thia; and Taiwan’s Tu Duu Chih and Yeh Ju Feng.

Admission to the event is by invitation only, but the show will be streamed live via www.1malaysiaiptv.com.my. It will also be aired at 3.30pm on Astro AEC on Oct 27.

Malaysian movie buffs can vote for their favourite movies in two categories: The Most Popular Local Chinese Film and The Most Popular Singaporean Film. Online voting can be done via www.facebook.com/CFAM2013 and voting will be closed by 7pm on Oct 15.

Two lucky voters will be randomly selected to attend the awards ceremony.
