Renowned Hong Kong singer-actress Sammi Cheng left fans concerned after sharing a video of herself in a wheelchair.

In an Instagram post on Thursday (Oct 2), the 53-year-old revealed that she had been absent from social media for the past two weeks due to a back injury that required hospital care.

“My mood has been really down. I injured my lower back during a gym workout some 10 days ago. Since I couldn’t reach my usual orthopaedic doctor at the time, I opted for traditional Chinese treatment,” she said.

When the pain persisted, Cheng, who’s married to fellow artiste Andy Hui, underwent an MRI scan, which revealed two muscle tears.

She recalled the ordeal of being wheeled into the MRI room, sharing: “Every time the wheelchair rolled over a bump, the pain was unbearable.”

Cheng expressed relief that her spinal discs were unaffected, as any damage could’ve led to lasting complications.

The singer has since cancelled most of her work engagements to focus on recovery at home.

She reassured fans that her condition has improved, saying: “I can finally resume more normal activities and gradually start doing some light exercise again.”

To show her progress, Cheng also uploaded a photo of herself in workout gear while taking a walk.
