Indonesian actress Sekar Arum Widara has been detained by the police on allegations of using counterfeit money while shopping, Indonesian media reported.
The South Jakarta Police Station, in a statement to the media, said that Sekar, 41, was arrested on April 2 after she was found using fake currency at a shopping mall in Kemang, South Jakarta.
"While making a payment, the cashier inspected the money with a UV scanner and discovered it was counterfeit.
"The purchase transaction was cancelled, and security guards then filed a police report," said a police spokesperson.
Upon her arrest, police also found counterfeit money amounting to RM59,000 in her bag.
It is said that Sekar had successfully made a purchase at another store earlier and returned to the same premises a few hours later.
However, her third attempt failed when she tried to pay with 11 counterfeit Rp100,000 (RM26.25) notes.
If found guilty, Sekar could face up to 15 years in prison.
