Singer Mariah Carey returned to social media – and work – Sunday (Sept 8) after “a couple of rough weeks” following the same-day deaths of her mother and sister last month.

“Back at work. It’s been a couple of rough weeks, but I appreciate everyone’s love and support so much and I can’t wait to see my fans in China & Brazil,” Carey captioned in a video clip of her rehearsing for planned international shows. “Love you!”

The 55-year-old pop star languidly sang a slowed-down version of the 2005 tune It’s Like That and told fans: “We’ll see you soon, China.”

Carey’s post came about two weeks after she revealed on Aug 27 that her mother Patricia Carey and sister Alison Carey had both died the previous weekend, and both on the same day.

“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend,” Carey said in a statement at the time. “Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”

Carey is preparing for two shows in China on Sept 15 and 16, followed by two more in Brazil, on Sept. 20 and 21, as part of the Rock in Rio music festival.

The songstress had an up-and-down, intense relationship with her mom and was estranged from her sister.

“I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mum before she passed,” Carey said in her statement after her mum’s and sister’s deaths. “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.” – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
