Seann William Scott is no stranger to making a pittance for a job with huge impact.
The 46-year-old actor, best known for his franchise-long role as Stifler in four American Pie movies, revealed on The Rich Eisen Show that he only earned US$8,000 for the first film before its 1999 release.
“It was a lot of money at the time,” said the Role Models star. “I was like, ‘cha-ching.’ ... I remember afterwards, I bought a used Thunderbird for like US$5,000 or maybe US$6,000, I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, baby.’”
Noting he wasn’t sure what happened to the remainder of the cash, Scott revealed he still had to take on a brief side gig at the L.A. Zoo working “as a churro guy, so maybe it was even less than $8,000.”
Though Scott dropped the surprising figure during his appearance on the show last year, the clip resurfaced this week amid the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Actors’ picketing started just over two weeks ago, alongside the Writers Guild, after stalled contract negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which represents studios and streamers.
Since then, many actors have come forward to reveal the shockingly low pay cheques and residuals they’ve received from roles on hit shows, arguing against what they see as a huge flaw in the streaming model. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service
