Yayasan Kebajikan Artis Tanahair (YKAT) gave out monetary assistance to eight artistes aged 60 and above.
The aid is not only in conjunction with the Lunar New Year, but also to show appreciation towards the performers who have contributed to the local entertainment industry.
Datuk DJ Dave, who is the chairman of YKAT’s board of trustees, said in a statement that RM8,000 was allocated to be given out to eight people the board had identified.
On Jan 20, each of them received RM1,000, which includes RM100 for seven of the recipients eligible for Program Khairat YKAT.
The eight artistes are singer-actress Janaky Doraisamy as well as singers Safar Ghaffar, Zahruddin Kamaruddin (Ayai Ilusi), Chng Shyue Chung, Chua Kee Seong, Kanna Dass Maniakaran, Chik Soon King and Low Whye Kaim.
YKAT had been actively helping local artistes in need as well organising various activities related to the industry for more than a decade now.
“We hope to continue receiving support from various groups in terms of sponsorship so we can continue to take care of our artistes. We have helped some 1,700 artistes up to today,” said DJ Dave in the statement.
