After a hiatus in 2020, the Latin American Film Festival (LAFF) returns this year with a selection of movies from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico and Peru.

Held at Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) at Midvalley in Kuala Lumpur from Nov 18 to 21, all screenings are free.

Movie tickets can be redeemed at GSC Midvalley an hour before each film screening.

Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis. One person can redeem one ticket only.

“It is a pleasure for us Latin American countries to be able to show once again, in a Malaysian cinema, a little bit of our own cultures as represented in our movies. We hope Malaysians will come and have a good time. Hopefully, this experience will help them to get to know us more, just as we love Malaysian culture,” says Ary Norton de Murat Quintella, ambassador of Brazil to Malaysia.

This year’s film selection is heavy on drama and documentaries, with some adventure, music, biography and comedy rounding up this eclectic mix.

Brazil’s Vinicius celebrates Brazilian poet, lyricist and playwright Vinicius de Moraes; Argentina’s I’m Gilda charts the journey of Argentinian singer Gilda; and Peru’s Pacificum: Return To The Ocean examines the history, development, fauna and flora of the Peruvian coast.

Fans of drama and intrigue can check out Cuba’s Inocencia which revolves around an investigation to prove the innocence of a group of medical students.

Colombia’s Los Ajenos Futbal Club promises laughs all around with its tale of three friends who will stop at nothing to keep their inheritance.

Mexico’s The Promise brings us to a small town where we meet a bright and mischievous boy who drives his teacher up the wall.

And last but not least, Chile’s The Mole Agent introduces us to an elderly man who goes undercover in a nursing home.

The LAFF is organised by the embassies of the Latin American and Caribbean Group (Grulac).

All movies are screened with English subtitles.
