Disney's Raya And The Last Dragon, a story set in South-East Asia and co-written by Malaysian-born, United States-based screenwriter Adele Lim, will be released on March 11,2021.
Lim's co-writer is Qui Nguyen.
Walt Disney Animation Studios released a gorgeous still from the movie today (Aug 28) featuring the central character, Raya, and her trusty steed Tuk Tuk.
It was also revealed that Kelly Marie Tran will be voicing Raya. She joins actress Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians) who voices Sisu, the dragon.
Tran is a Vietnamese American actress who is best known for her role as Rose Tico in the two recent Star Wars films, The Last Jedi (2017) and The Rise Of Skywalker (2019).
Meanwhile, here is the official synopsis for Raya And The Last Dragon.
"Long ago, in the fantasy world of Kumandra, humans and dragons lived together in harmony. But when sinister monsters known as the Druun threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity.
"Now, 500 years later, those same monsters have returned and it’s up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the last dragon in order to finally stop the Druun for good.
"However, along her journey, she’ll learn that it’ll take more than dragon magic to save the world – it’s going to take trust as well."
Raya And The Last Dragon is directed by Don Hall (Big Hero 6) and Carlos Lope Estrada (Blindspotting).
