2019 is here and if your New Year’s resolution is to watch more TV shows, then you’ve come to the right place! Here are five must-watch TV shows premiering in January:

Set in the Joseon Dynasty, a king, afflicted by a mysterious plague, dies and comes back to life as a zombie. As the plague threatens to wreak havoc on the kingdom, his heir goes on a mission to learn the truth about his father’s condition. The Netflix original, with a budget of US$1.78mil (RM7.4mil) per episode, has already been renewed for a second season before its premiere. Starring Ju Ji-Hoon and Bae Donna.

Kingdom premieres Jan 25 on Netflix.

The King Of Blaze

A scientist, played by Chen Bolin, and journalist, played by Jing Tian, work together to preserve the environment. But there’s a lot more history between them, spanning thousands of years in fact. You see, the two were deities, the God Of Fire and God Of Wind, who have been reincarnated. The 61-episode Chinese series traces their relationship from the very beginning.

The King Of Blaze is available on dimsum.

Tidying Up With Marie Kondo

Are you looking to declutter your home this 2019? Be inspired to turn your resolution into reality as the wildly popular organising consultant Marie Kondo helps families rid their homes of the clutter that they’ve accumulated over the years in this reality series. Perhaps her unique method of asking one’s self if an item sparks joy will help you decide what to keep and what to discard.

Tidying Up With Marie Kondo is available on Netflix.

Gotham Season Five

At the end of the fourth season, Jeremiah Velaska bombed the bridges of Gotham, cutting its inhabitants off from the outside world. The fifth and final season will see how the city deals with the aftermath of the chaos, especially when the villains begin to resurface. Starring Ben McKenzie, David Mazouz and Cameron Monaghan.

Gotham Season Five premieres Jan 4 at 9pm on Warner TV (Unifi TV Ch 613 & Astro Ch 719).

True Detective Season Three

Details about the third season of True Detective are scarce. What we do know is it’ll revolve around two detectives working together to solve a case involving two missing children. But if it’s previous seasons are anything to go by, the series will boast top-notch acting performances. This time, Oscar Best Actor winner Mahershala Ali will lead the cast.

True Detective Season Three premieres Jan 14 at 10am on HBO (Astro Ch 411).
