Multi-talented 988 radio DJ Cheryl Lee is about to add another feather in her cap, by being the first local female to conduct a Chinese language comedy show in Malaysia.
Cheryl Lee All Salah Talk Show will be her very first stand-up comedy gig, after more than a decade in showbiz.
“My inspiration is definitely Dayo Wong from Hong Kong, who is the pioneer of Cantonese stand up comedy. As for my favourite comedians, they are Chris Rock and Trevor Noah,” says Lee who will be doing her shows in Cantonese.
Commenting on the quirky title of her show, Lee explains: “This is a politically correct era, and as such, it is also the age where the whole world is salah (wrong). It refers to all kinds of social imbalance.
“Many women, including myself, are trained to be conservative when dealing with certain things.
“Therefore in the talk show, I will be dealing with taboo topics such as issues faced while being single versus issues faced while being in a relationship, based on my own experiences throughout the years,” says Lee, who will be sharing her own unique views on sensitive topics such as the difference between men and women’s opinions towards sex and relationships.
Lee is a multi-talented artiste helming shows on 988 radio station as well as host of a TV show.
Lee is also a lifestyle columnist for two magazines, a best-selling author (Xin Xiang Shi Cheng, Vol. 1-3) an award-winning singer-songwriter as well as a budding actress (A House Of Happiness, My Papa Rich, Bullets Over Petaling Street, Love Matters).
With so much on her plate, Lee revealed that it took her around one year to develop the script for her 90-minute talk show, which is created by Super Fun Entertainment and produced by Nell.
Tickets to both the matinee and the 8pm shows on Sep 8 have sold out.
Due to popular demand, Lee has been persuaded to add another show at 7pm on Sep 9. There is even a designated 100-seater singleton zone, so singles can be seated together where they can make some like-minded friends.
