KL Special Force marks as Tania Hudson’s second outing in a Syafiq Yusof action movie. The 32-year-old actress previously starred in last year’s box office juggernaut Abang Long Fadil 2, playing the role of a reporter.

In KL Special Force, Tania stars as Mia, a banker’s daughter and the fiancee to police officer Zul (Fattah Amin).

The Malay-Australian actress said she is flattered to be part of another Skop Production action movie. If she gets more opportunities, she hopes some of them will be action flicks.

“I think it’d be fun. But most people assume that because I’m soft-spoken, I’m unable to star in action movies. I would like to prove them wrong,” she said.

1. Talk to us about the biggest challenge you faced as Mia in KL Special Force.

I don’t get to do stunts like falling off a building or jumping over cars. I would love to but only the boys get to do that.

There is a scene where I had to run through a series of explosions with Fattah. I was scared because I didn’t want to get hit by flying debris.

I know there is a lot of risk that comes from filming an action movie. As an actor, you just have to go through it all. Even though I was feeling nervous, I trust the experts in the production team to keep me safe.

2. How do you feel about the negative criticism of your acting skills in Abang Long Fadil 2?

I don’t feel insulted or anything. When I first got the Abang Long Fadil 2 offer, I was not actively acting. I was on a break from acting for two years. That meant I had to start all over again.

Even prior to that, I was not acting consistently. I would do one acting gig and then go quiet for a while.

I feel without the consistency, it became difficult for me as I lack practice.

I know I have a lot to improve in terms of acting.

3. What do you hope to do to improve on your acting?

I need more experience. I would also like to do different genres like romance, action and drama because each genre has its own set of challenges. I’ve also given some thought on learning acting through theatre. Going for more casting sessions is also a valuable way of gaining experience.

Someone told me that for every casting session, I also get the chance to polish my skills. Even if I don’t get the part, I get valuable insights on what I can do to improve my chances for the next time.

4. Do you think being a low-profile celebrity has somehow affected your acting chances?

Yes, I get that statement a lot. People have told me that it’s going to be hard for me to get acting offers if I don’t put myself out there.

5. Do you remember why you wanted to become an actress?

Honestly, I never thought that I would become an actress. I was a shy, timid girl with no confidence.

My sister (actress-model) Natasha Hudson was the one who pushed me into the spotlight. She has done commercials from a young age and she suggested that I should try modelling too, just to break out of my shell.

I was 18 years old when I shot my first magazine cover.

Then a friend who is an assistant director told me to give acting a try. At first, I laughed at the idea but decided to try it anyway.

My first acting gig was a telemovie opposite Shaheizy Sam.

Back then, acting was something I did for fun. When I look at where my career is now, I can’t believe that I have made it this far.
