TNT drama Major Crimes will end after its upcoming sixth season, Variety has learned. The crime procedural starring Mary McDonnell, premiered in 2012 as a spinoff of The Closer.
Major Crimes has been a bulwark for TNT, pulling in 10 million viewers a week across all platforms, according to Turner. Turner Entertainment chief creative officer Kevin Reilly has taken TNT’s creative direction away from the kind of meat-and-potatoes police procedural that marked the networks’ previous aesthetic. The series was renewed for a sixth season by TNT in January in the middle of its fifth season.
