Back in March 2016, Malaysian singer-actor Pete Teo got a call from his agent in Hong Kong about a role in an upcoming Hollywood production.

In a phone interview with, 44-year-old Teo revealed that he was offered a role in the upcoming Hollywood adaptation of the popular Japanese manga, Ghost In The Shell.

“I play Tony, a character who is not in the original manga. He was created for the movie,” he said.

Ghost In The Shell stars Scarlett Johansson as The Major, a cyborg tasked with taking down cyber criminals and hackers. The film directed by Rupert Sanders is based on the Japanese cyberpunk manga of the same name, originally published in 1989.

Teo has signed a confidentiality agreement and can’t reveal too much about his involvement in the film yet though he did say that he shot “a lot of scenes” with Johansson.

Ghost In The Shell is Teo’s first foray into Hollywood. Previously, he starred in a number of local films such as Ho Yuhang’s At The End Of Daybreak and Afdlin Shauki’s Papadom film series. Teo can currently be seen in the online film, KL24: Zombies.

Ghost In The Shell is scheduled for release in Malaysia on March 30.
