Prince, the singer who rose to fame in the 1980s with hits like Purple Rain, When Doves Cry and Kiss, has died at age 57.
His publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, confirmed to AP. "It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57,” Schure said in a statement. “There are no further details as to the cause of death at this time.”
TMZ website reported that the singer died in his Paisley Park home in Minnesota, United States.
Earlier this month, Prince had to cancel a scheduled performance in Atlanta due to illness. Last Friday, he was briefly hospitalised after his plane was forced to make an emergency landing at Illinois' Quad City International Airport. It was reported that he has been struggling with the flu.
In his three decades in the music industry, Prince has released 39 albums, won Grammys as well as the an Oscar for Purple Rain.
