You may wonder if we need yet another retelling of Alexandre Dumas’ 19th-century novel The Three Musketeers. After all, it has been retold so many times on screen that watching yet another adaptation would seem like watching a rerun.

In this BBC adaptation, called simply The Musketeers, the show’s creator Adrian Hodges assumes that the audience is well-versed with the lore and plunges our characters into the action straight away. A good move; it doesn’t give viewers time to reconsider before they are snared by its many charms.
