Izzue Islam's portrayal of a visually-impaired man in 29 Februari won him a Best Promising Actor award at the Malaysia Film Festival in 2013.

In conjunction with Merdeka Day, Astro will be airing films made by Malaysians from today until Malaysia Day (Sept 16).

Astro chief operating officer Henry Tan shares the idea behind this year’s Negaraku campaign: “We are excited to celebrate Malaysian cinema, profiling Malaysian actors and directors involved in Malaysian films both locally and internationally.”

Viewers will get to watch 24 new titles, including the award-winning Terbaik Dari Langit, Oh My English Telemovie: Oh My Goat – Come Baaack!, Marupakkam, The Journey, and 29 Februari.

Catch films by local talents who have made the country proud such as Malaysia-born director James Wan’s The Conjuring, Reign Of Assassins starring Michelle Yeoh, and Viral Factor starring Crystal Lee.

Get to know the local indie scene with films like The Girl From Tomorrow, Girl In The Water, and Afternoon River, Evening Sky.

If you prefer to stick to the classics, look out for Bawang Puteh Bawang Merah, Sultan Mahmood Mangkat Di Julang, and Sumpah Pontianak.
