Since meeting Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and discovering she has a knack for sleuthing, Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) decides to strike out on her own.
After all, this is a woman who wants to keep learning, growing and moving forward – and what else marks the willingness to go in a new direction than a student breaking away from the teacher. However, that causes friction – as seen in Season Three of Elementary as things get frosty between the two main characters. But – worry not – over the course of the season, both Sherlock and Joan will find each other again. “The dynamic of them being separated and the tension of them having time pass between them is also going to elevate their relationship a little bit,” Liu tells Entertainment Weekly. “Sometimes you don’t really get perspective on something until you step away from it.”
