The Great British Bake Off: Christmas Masterclass

Here’s a rundown of some of the most entertaining shows to watch this holiday season.

Christmas Day

> Barbie: A Perfect Christmas (TV3, 10am) – Barbie and her sisters are all packed and ready to celebrate Christmas in New York, but their journey is thwarted by a heavy storm. Will they make it in time? Voices by Diana Kaarina and Jennifer Waris.

> Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas (TV2, 11.30am) – Sid is on the “naughty” list this year after accidentally destroying Manny’s precious family heirloom. Hoping to make things right, he takes a trip to the North Pole. with hilarious results. Voices by Ray Romano and John Leguizamo.

> A Christmas Song (Diva/Astro Ch 702, 11.10am) – Sparks fly between two music teachers who are rivals in a song competition. Starring Natasha Henstridge, Gabriel Hogan and Amanda Thomson.

> Beauty And The Beast: Belle’s Magical World (Disney Channel/Astro Ch 615, noon) – Divided into three segments, this 1998 animated film will impart lessons on forgiveness, love and kindness to your children. Voices by Paige O’Hara and Robby Benson.

> Justin Bieber: London Live Special (iConcerts HD/HyppTV Ch 603, 11.35am) – In front of screaming fans in London’s glamorous historic music venue Koko (formerly Camden Palace Theatre), the American teen heartthrob performs a selection of his most famous hits.

A Christmas Song

> Nigel Slater’s 12 Tastes Of Christmas (BBC Lifestyle/HyppTV Ch 620, 11.40am) – Nigel reveals his best-loved holiday treats to get you in the mood for Christmas. In search of a very special Christmas tree, he takes a culinary trip to Norway.

> The Great British Bake Off: Christmas Masterclass (BBC Lifestyle/HyppTV Ch 620, 12.35pm) – Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood share recipes inspired by European traditions. They reveal tricks for making the perfect mince pie, Christmas cake and Christmas pudding.

> 2013 Hallyu Dream Concert (8TV, 2pm) – Having a K-pop-themed Christmas this year? Then don’t forget to tune in to this concert featuring performances by some of the hottest K-pop acts such as TVXQ, Sistar, 4Minute, Crayon Pop, Ailee, A Pink and Kara.

> Extreme Christmas Trees (TV2, 2pm) – Can you imagine 40 carvers working on a Christmas tree made entirely of ice? How about another one adorned with US$200,000 (about RM700,000) worth of ornaments? This fascinating documentary takes a look at some of the most elaborate Christmas trees around the world.

> Robbie Williams: Take The Crown (TV1, 3.30pm) – Don’t miss this British singer-songwriter’s live performance during the Take The Crown tour last year, promoting his ninth studio album of the same name.

Saturday Night Live: James Franco Christmas Special

> Saturday Night Live: James Franco Christmas Special (Comedy Central HD/HyppTV Ch 609, 5pm) – Hosted by Franco, this edition of SNL will see hilarious sketches from the likes of Jason Sudeikis, Fred Armisen, Kristen Wiig and Bill Hader.

> The Polar Express (HBO/Astro Ch 411/HD Ch 431, 5.20pm) – Slowly becoming a Christmas classic, this 2004 motion-capture animated film is about a doubting boy who boards a magical train bound for the North Pole and Santa Claus’ home. Voices by Tom Hanks, Chris Coppola and Michael Jeter.

> 3rd & Bird: A Very Squooky Christmas (CBeeBies/HyppTV Ch 553, 6.40pm) – A little mouse is separated from its family on Christmas Eve, and Samuel, Rudy and Muffin must help reunite them.

> Charlie And Lola: Christmas Special (CBeeBies/HyppTV Ch 553, 7pm) – Lola is looking forward to Christmas. However, she almost ruins it when she mixes up some greeting cards by accident. On top of that, the Christmas door on the Advent calendar has gone missing, so Lola and Charlie try to find a way to replace it.

The Polar Express

> The Three Magis Of Magic (RTL CBS Entertainment HD/HyppTV Ch 616, 7.05pm) – Expect a magical Christmas night filled with fascinating illusions and tricks by Dynamo, Troy and International Magician of the Year 2013, Cosentino.

> Gordon Ramsay’s Ultimate Christmas (ntv7, 8pm) – Gordon Ramsay is cooking up a mouth-watering variety of festive dishes, including a holiday spin on his signature beef Wellington, roast ham, perfectly cooked vegetables and, of course, the ultimate turkey.

> Saving Santa (FOX Family Movies HD/Astro Ch 430, 8pm) – Oh no! Santa has been kidnapped by the evil Neville Baddington and it is up to a lowly stable elf to save Christmas by travelling back in time and preventing the abduction. Voices by Newell Alexander, Noel Clarke and Joan Collins.

> Puss In Boots (TV9, 8.32pm) – Stare into the adorable eyes of Puss in Boots once more, as this 2011 animated film follows the sword-wielding cat’s life before meeting Shrek and Donkey. Voices by Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek.

> Call The Midwife S3 Christmas Special (BBC Entertainment, HyppTV Ch 614, 9pm) – In this two-part Christmas special, an unexploded bomb is discovered nearby, forcing Nonnatus House and the surrounding area to be evacuated. Meanwhile, Shelagh questions her decision to leave the convent to marry Dr Patrick Turner. A man suffering from shell shock is assisted by Jenny and Trixie.

> The Kumars At No. 42 Christmas Special (Comedy Central HD/HyppTV Ch 609, 9pm) – A fictional British Indian family hosts a chat show in their own backyard studio. Catch actor Neil Morrissey and musician Cliff Richard in this Christmas special.

> Unplugged: Silversun Pickups (8TV, 9.30pm) – Make your Christmas a rocking one with a performance by this Los Angeles alternative rock band.

> The Three Musketeers (TV3, 10pm) – Appreciate the gift of friendship this Christmas with this 2011 adventure flick based on the Alexandre Dumas classic. Starring Logan Lerman, Luke Evans and Matthew Mcfadyen.

> Gloria In Excelsis Deo: Festive Music For Christmas (DW/HyppTV Ch 403, 10.15pm) – A Christmas concert performed by the Saxony Philharmonic Wind Orchestra, consisting of solely wind instruments from Germany and the Wernigerode RadioYouth Choir.

> Paul O’Grady: For The Love Of Dogs At Christmas (ITV Choice/Astro Ch 735, 11.25pm) – Learn the heartwarming stories of homeless pets and what the dedicated staff at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home are doing to give these furry friends a second chance.

Boxing Day

> M Countdown: No. 1 Artist Spring 2014 (8TV, midnight) – It may be midnight but the night has just started. Groove to K-pop tunes by 2PM, Girl’s Day, MBLAQ and Block B.

> Uncle Grandpa: Christmas With Uncle Santa (Cartoon Network/Astro Ch 616, 10am) – Don’t miss this special episode as Uncle Grandpa must work through his personal differences with Santa Claus to save the world.

> My Little Pony: Equestria Girls (ntv7, noon) – In order to recover a crown stolen from the Crystal Empire, Twilight travels to an alternate universe where she transforms into a powerless teenage human and must navigate life in high school. Voices by Tara Strong and Shleigh Ball.

> A Perfect Christmas (Diva/Astro Ch 702, 2.40pm) – Holly Maddux always dreamed of falling in love with the perfect man. Well, it doesn’t get more “perfect” than this. When she slips in front of a shop one day, a hunky mannequin in the store comes to life and helps her up. Creepy. Starring Claire Coffee and Ryan McPartlin.

> Muzikal Anak Dunia (Christmas Special) (TV2, 4pm) – Be entertained by these talented children as they sing, dance and even perform a magic show in this special Christmas segment.

> Down Memory Lane (TV2, 10pm) – Have a cosy evening while listening to performances by local singers Fauziah Latiff, Ning Baizura, Dina Nazir, Nita, Aliff Satar, Erni Zakri, Hazama, Prema Yin and Daniel Lee.

> 19th Asian TV Awards (STAR World/Astro Ch 711, 5.30pm) – Though launched in 1996, this is the first time the Asian TV Awards (ATA), recognising excellence in programming, production and performance in the Asian television industry, is being broadcast.

> Doctor Who: Last Christmas (BBC Entertainment/HyppTV Ch 614, 8pm) – When they are under attack by terrifying creatures and trapped in an Arctic base, the Doctor and Clara seek help from Santa Claus. Will this be the last Christmas for the Doctor and Clara?

> Pete’s Christmas (FOX Family Movies HD/Astro Ch 430, 8pm) – A family’s Christmas Day keeps repeating and it is up to Pete, the overlooked middle child, to fix the situation and give his family a Christmas they will never forget. Starring Zachary Gordon, Molly Parker and Rick Roberts.

> After The Wave (Discovery Channel / Astro Ch 551, 10pm) – Ten years may have passed but let’s not forget the harrowing events of the Boxing Day 2004 Tsunami. After The Wave tells of the forensic operation in Thailand undertaken to identify and return the bodies of more than 5,000 victims.
