French-Brazilian photographer Sebastiao Salgado, famed for his immense body of work depicting wildlife, landscapes and people around the world, died on Friday (May 23) aged 81, announced the French Academy of Fine Arts, of which he was a member.
The academy said it was "deeply saddened to announce the death... of Sebastiao Salgado", describing him as a "great witness to the human condition and the state of the planet".
