Cats, Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical adaptation of poet T.S.Eliot's much loved classic Old Possum's Book Of Practical Cats, is set to play at Istana Budaya from Jan 16-26, 2020.

The Kuala Lumpur tour dates have been announced on the musical's official website.

As one of the longest-running shows in West End and Broadway history, Cats received its world premiere at the New London Theatre in 1981 where it played for 21 record-breaking years and almost 9,000 performances.

This upcoming touring Cats musical show, presented by Base Live Entertainment in KL, will also take in several other Asian dates, including shows in China, the Philippines and Singapore.

The show, which last visited Istana Budaya in Sept 2002, is set amongst a larger- than-life junkyard playground and is alive with our favourite feline characters including Rum Tum Tugger, Mr Mistoffelees, Macavity, Jennyanydots, Old Deuteronomy, Grizabella and Skimbleshanks.

The Jellicle Cats come out to play on one special night of the year - the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one they tell their stories for the amusement of Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, who must choose one of the Cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life.

Popular classics from Cats include Memory, The Old Gumbie Cat and Macavity, the Mystery Cat.

Memory has been recorded by over 150 artists from Barbra Streisand and Johnny Mathis to Liberace and Barry Manilow.

A Hollywood movie version of Cats, directed by Tom Hooper and starring Taylor Swift, James Corden and Jennifer Hudson, is set for cinema release in late December, making this upcoming stage musical's visit to KL even more anticipated.

Cats plays at Istana Budaya in Kuala Lumpur from Jan 16-26, 2020. Tickets start at RM250 (excluding handling charges). More info: ticketcharge.com.my
