An existing tale from legendary author J.R.R. Tolkien is to be published in a new book, due for release next year.
For the book the tale of lovers Beren and Lúthien was extracted from The History of Middle-earth, a 12-volume series of works that collected and analysed material relating to Tolkien's work, compiled and edited by his son Christopher Tolkien.
Telling the story of two lovers, the tale has evolved since it was first written in 1917 and has been reworked in various forms, including poetry.
Christopher Tolkien has edited the new work and presented together for the first time Tolkien's original text as well as passages from later texts that rework the tale.
Beren and Lúthien will be published in May 2017 on the 10th anniversary of the last Middle-earth title, The Children of Húrin, with the volume to include illustrations by Alan Lee. – AFP Relaxnews
