When Irwin Choo told his mother that he wanted to be a nurse, she wasn’t very pleased. She even wrote him a letter encouraging him to choose another career. One with regular office hours. Teaching, perhaps.
“At that time she felt that although, yes, nursing is noble job, it is also a tough job what with having to deal with bodily fluids like faeces, urine and blood. Then, working shift hours,” says Choo, 28, in a recent e-mail interview.
