A quick look in any major bookstore in Malaysia would tell you that most of the children’s and young adult fiction books on sale are about the worlds and experiences of the Western child and teenager. Increasingly, other voices are emerging but they are a small percentage of this area of publishing.
This is one reason the Scholastic Asian Book Award (Saba) came into being.
