Artist Cheong Tuck Wai's tribute to what he left behind

Elderly In A Nap, Trance (image transfer, burn effect, acrylic, non-woven fabric on canvas, 2015).

Visual artist Cheong Tuck Wai has always been a bit of a wanderer. In 1999, he left his hometown of Kuantan, Pahang and made his way to Kuala Lumpur to work. Since then, he moved about seven times around the capital, settling in places such as Setapak, Setiawangsa, and Wangsa Maju.

One of the hardest things about the constant uprooting, however, is having to leave things behind. That is probably why Cheong’s latest exhibition is a haunting showcase celebrating family, departure and the memories left behind.
