Shoe Dog is the memoir of Nike founder Phil Knight. Photo: EPA
On the cover of Shoe Dog, tennis legend Andre Agassi hails Phil Knight’s book as “a memoir for people who love memoirs”. Quite the bold statement – and not completely off the mark.
Unsurprisingly, the opening of the book reads like a Nike advert: this doesn’t want to be a memoir stuffed with dreary details of yet another wannabe entrepreneur chasing the American Dream. Instead, we get a story that tries its best to draw us in from the start, hold us captive and keep us turning the pages, eagerly pressing on to find out what happens next.
