Homegrown department stores get into the Yuletide mood.

IT’S the season to be jolly. And as far as Metrojaya is concerned, Santa Claus is here to spread love, joy and the spirit of giving to everyone.

The theme is Love From Santa, and the homegrown department store has dressed up its premises in classic red, white, eco-green and vintage gold.

As it’s time to start shopping for clothes, Metrojaya offers a wide range of fashion, thanks to its various in-house brands.

Laura Ashley

For the uninitiated, this is a quintessential British lifestyle brand founded on a rich design heritage with traditional values of quality. Laura Ashley’s day to evening Christmas collection is inspired by the glamour of The Great Gatsby and the golden era of the early 1990s. It embraces the 1920s detailing with a touch of vintage for a modern update on simplified shapes such as the shift dress or blouse which can be worn from the office to a party.

Dresses and tops are made in comfortable fabrics including satin, lace, wool blends, cotton, silk and chiffon. Pivotal colours are ivory white, black, silver, floral prints and rouge.

Price: starts from RM139.00

Somerset Bay

Make a grand entrance at any year-end party with this collection comprising playful lace dresses, taffeta party dresses, knitted embellished tops and A-line mid-length skirts.

There is a luxurious blend of royal purple, deep claret, garnet, crimson red, sweet pink and ivory white with infusion of gold.

Fabrics include iridescent taffeta, organdy, crochet lace, knits and cotton.

Price: from 109.90 to RM209.90

East India Company

Its Yuletide collection is inspired by a modern day approach to classic dressing. For women, the element of elegance and sophistication is conveyed through simple and clean silhouettes with a dash of beading here and there.

For men, there is nothing outrageous, instead it’s a quiet sophistication of textures and prints. Classic black forms the colour palette, drawing also rich browns and scarlet red from rustic influences and highlights of purple and ivory white.

Price: from RM29 to RM209

With The Silk Road collection, the brand draws inspiration from the historic international trade route between China and the West. As such, it merges Eastern and Western cultures for a urban resort collection.

The fusion look is reinterpreted with classic silhouettes, subtlety and an understated lifestyle. Textured fabrics and weaves, and subtle hints of embroidery are featured, while the garnet punctuates a warm palette of deep browns, khakis and off whites.

Price: from RM99.90 to RM189.90

This brand notches up the glamour quotient with a range of party silhouettes. Cutting-edge pieces are reinvented with a nip, twist and fold.

Dressed down but kept edgy, the mood is directional with shine, texture and decoration. Featured are asymmetrical hemlines and decorative details with lace and beads.

Price: from RM79.90 to RM179.90

The collection, in keeping with formal dressing etiquette, takes its cue from the holiday season.

Stiff collars are unbuttoned and sleeves are rolled up so that we can get into a relaxed mood during the office party.

The starchy white shirt blouse is abandoned in favour of subdued glitter seen in fabric with lace and ruffles.

Price: from RM89.90 to RM169.90
