Bags of inspiration

Design a bag in support of the breast cancer cause.

PINNING on a pink ribbon announces that you are in support of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. It shows that you are backing up organisations and good causes alike for the disease. And if you’ve always wanted to spread the word a little further with something more than a pink ribbon, this is your chance.

Design a bag.

Draw up something creative with that signature pink ribbon incorporated into the design to make your declaration louder than usual. Jacqueline Ng, the creator of Gin & Jacqie bags, is encouraging people to work with her and the Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA) to participate in the Design A Bag Print competition to create more awareness among the public.

Open to all legal residents of Malaysia aged five and above, the competition entails coming up with a design that must incorporate the pink ribbon. But the shape and placement of the ribbon can be manipulated as the designer sees fit.

Participants are limited to using no more than eight solid colours (no shading or gradient allowed) and the final design must represent the designer’s take on the issue of breast cancer.

“The graphic should represent what breast cancer means to them. It allows their voice to be heard in the fight against breast cancer.

“All designs will be posted online for public voting and 10 designs with most number of votes will be shortlisted for final judging,” Ng explains.

Although there are first, second and third placing, there will only be one winning print design chosen based on its potential to inspire breast-cancer awareness.

The winning design will be reproduced and sold online from Oct 8. All proceeds from the sale will go to the association.

BCWA president Ranjit Kaur applauded the label for their charity bid and creating awareness on breast cancer.

“This invaluable contribution will be used to support our activities to improve the quality of life for women with breast cancer and at the same time, educate the public on breast health issues,” Ranjit said in a letter to Ng, thanking her for her “social responsibility project.”

The first prize winner gets RM1,000 worth of Estee Lauder products, Gin & Jacqie bag with winning design, RM500 worth of Cziplee artmaker and RM500 worth of Gin & Jacqie voucher. The second winner will get RM500 worth of Bobbi Brown products and a RM250 Cziplee voucher, while the third winner will be awarded RM500 worth of Clinique products and a RM250 Cziplee voucher. There are also 50 TGV tickets and 50 pieces of Innersecrets camisole to be won.

The competition ends on June 30. Participants may submit their work via, e-mail or drop them at Czip-lee Stationary Shop in Bangsar and Kajang, Kuala Lumpur. For details, visit
