S. INDRAMALAR finds out how to go all-natural in one’s skincare regime.
Good news for those in search of quality skin care products that are not only water-based but also formulated especially for Asian skin.
Originating from Canada, the p.r.e (Pure Radiance Energy) range of skincare products is free from synthetic ingredients which may be harmful to the skin such as emollients, artificial colorants, lanolin, mineral oil, sodium or ammonium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate. Instead, the products are made from vegetable and plant extracts. Plus they are not tested on animals.
Though there are in total 25 p.r.e skincare products, only 12 were selected for the Malaysian market by sole distributor and marketer Beausoft Sdn Bhd.
Said Lynne Teoh, general manager of Beausoft, “We selected the 12 products from the p.r.e skincare regime because they suit Asian skin. Consideration was also given to stability and tolerance for the local heat and humidity.
“All the products were researched, developed and manufactured in Canada, adhering to strict Good Manufacturing Practice standards under pharmaceutical conditions.”
p.r.e was first introduced in the Canadian market in 1996 and its first specialty store was opened in Vancouver in 1997. After establishing itself in Canada and the United States, the brand was then introduced in Taiwan in 2003. Malaysia is the second Asian country to sell p.r.e skincare products.
“Our skincare range is developed for one sole purpose? to keep the skin’s natural glow and radiance, and to ensure it looks healthy all the time. p.r.e products are water-based and developed with gentle and high quality ingredients that will minimise clogging of pores and renew the skin’s glow,” added Teoh.
The co-founder and president of the pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Western Canada is Dave Gill, a Malaysian with more than 25 years of international experience under his belt.
Teoh said she was attracted to p.r.e because of their emphasis on product quality and not just packaging.
“p.r.e understands that while ladies need good skincare products, affordability is important. Therefore, as we will not compromise on the quality of our products, we try to eradicate incidental costs such as packaging. You will notice that our products come in very basic and plain packaging. That is because p.r.e is adamant that their beauty investments are channelled all the way back to the formulation of all their products,” said Teoh.
Among the 12 products available in Malaysia, Beausoft has identified three as its “star products” – the eye repair serum, the revitalising skin therapy and the cactus hydrating gel. The eye repair serum is claimed to reduce fine lines and dark circle around the eyes, and keep the area hydrated as well as firm.
Active ingredients in the serum include Palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 and bearberry extracts that, among other things, promotes collagen production to reduce fine lines and prevent thinning of the skin around the eye.
The revitalising skin therapy is an anti-ageing cream that hydrates and nourishes the skin. Containing natural plant oils, fruit acids, and vitamins A, C and E, the product is especially suitable for those with normal to dry skin.
p.r.e’s cactus hydrating gel, for normal to oily skin, promises to lock in moisture of the skin. It contains plant extracts such as sea kelp. It also serves as a base moisturiser to be used under make-up.
