POLO is not Indias most popular sport. But then again, it was never for the common people. This game of kings, however, has a special relationship with India.
Believed to have originated in Persia more than 2,500 years ago, it took root in India during the Moghul empire during the 16th to mid-18th centuries. The Indian maharajahs seemed to have a deep affinity and talent for the sport and gave it that royal connection. British colonial officers helped to develop it further by starting clubs and formulating rules.
