Staying to party?

IF you’re considering staying the night in the area, you might as well do so at 22 Jermyn Street, one of London’s most chic boutique hotels; its named after its address at No. 22.

As most West End theatres are within 10 minutes’ walk, convenience is its middle name. At under RM2,000 per night (rack rates), though, it’s not the best bargain and does not even have its own restaurant so you must eat out – which is no problem as fantastic eateries are everywhere.

Nightlife is also a few minutes’ walk down Piccadilly Circus where stands China White, famous for its bar staff and waitresses almost as gorgeous as their customers. The sofa-like areas are more suited to sleeping than sitting and you are almost assured of bumping into someone famous. It’s members only but these are tough times so if you pay £15 or £20 (RM100.50 or RM134) at the door, the bouncers may let you in. But have contingency plans if you are refused entry despite being dressed the part.

Splashing out a thousand ringgit on an evening’s binge is normal? Then Elysium is inevitable. Go on Thursday and Friday, which are Sintillate Nights, a rather bogus members’ night open to the public. Celebrities and famous people are actually paid to turn up so peasants like us with no connections to London’s Beautiful People can feel as if we are part of the in crowd. Elysium is ruinously expensive (guess who ends up paying for the stars to attend?) but is so glamorous and thrilling the forthcoming credit card pain is worth it.
