THE sole traditional Melanau tallhouse in the Land of the Hornbills stands in the Sarawak Cultural Village. Melanau tour guide Ros Anthony said the length of the tallhouse displayed at the cultural village was actually only a third of the actual ones. These days, the Melanau people live in Malay village-style houses.
The Melanau tallhouse at the cultural village stands on 49 stilts of belian wood, and was built without using nails. That really impressed us. The wood was tied using rattan.
