Tomorrow Popular performer Zainal Abidin is set to entertain dads this Father’s Day at the Atrium Café in the Pyramid Tower of the resort.

TJJ Hatch-A-Hawksbill Jumble Sale for Turtle Conservation 

June 25 & 26 TJJ E-Adventure, an organisation which promotes opportunities for young people to participate in outdoor activities and conservation projects, is organising a charity jumble sale from 10am-5pm to raise funds for a community-based turtle conservation project based at Padang Kemunting, Malacca. 

Proceeds will go towards the establishment and operation of a volunteer programme to assist in on-going turtle conservation activities at the site. 

Items on sale include second-hand home appliances, bags, shoes, books/magazines, accessories, toys, trinkets and computer parts.

Human Values Debate 

This debate aims to promote the practice of human values. Organised by the Sathya Sai Baba Centres of Perak, it is open to all university, college and sixth-form students in Perak between the ages of 18 and 25. There is no participation fee. The debate will be conducted in English and will use the Australasian format. 

Competition begins in the first week of July, with the Grand Finals on July 10. There are monetary prizes, a challenge shield and certificates to be won. 

Conditions of participation: all participants will have to join in a one-day service project at the Handicapped Children’s Home, Batu Gajah on July 3. Participants from each debating team must also represent at least two of the major ethnic groups in Malaysia.

French Art Festival 

France takes centrestage at the fourth edition of this month-long festival, which showcases the latest trends on the French art scene by award-winning and critically acclaimed French artists, photographers, musicians and film-makers. Events happening this week include: 

  • Fête de la musiqueToday & tomorrow Be part of the “biggest free concert ever”! Every year, on June 21 or the third Saturday of the month, 800,000 musicians, 10,000 shows and millions of people celebrate this “giant world party” in France and 100 countries all over the world. 

    Venues: Bukit Bintang, Low Yat Plaza, Times Square (KL), Upper Penang Road & Leith Street (Georgetown). Dance to the beat from noon to midnight (5pm-midnight in Penang). Admission is free. 

  • JabalToday & tomorrow Jabal, from the Arabic “djebel” (mountain) is a performance of French music with Arabic and African accents. Venues: Bukit Bintang (today), KL Performing Arts Centre (tomorrow), at 8.30pm. Admission is free.

    From India With Love 

    Until June 26 Malaysia Airlines presents this hilarious prequel to D’Arranged Marriage, performed by New Zealand-based comedy duo Those Indian Guys, Rajeev Varma and Tarun Mohanbhai. All shows at 8pm with extra noon performance every Saturday and extra 3pm show every Sunday. No shows on Mondays.

    Butoh workshop by Ko Murobushi 

    Today & tomorrow This introductory workshop, presented by Ko Murobushi, a leading Japanese Butoh dancer, is specially for theatre practitioners, dancers and enthusiasts of this avant-garde dance form. The workshop will be held over two days from 3pm-6pm (today) and 10am-1pm (tomorrow).

    Japanese Film Festival 

    Today & tomorrow Last two days to catch some popular Japanese movies. Today’s offerings are Bokunchi – My House (11am), Tokyo Story (1.30pm; 6.40pm tomorrow), Village of Dreams (4.15pm), The Taste of Tea (6.45pm, 3.50pm tomorrow).

    Yoga Awareness Course 

    June 24-June 26 (Tamil), July 1-July 3 (English) A yoga consultant will conduct a three-day basic yoga course which covers both the theoretical and practical aspects of yoga.
