The Mediterranean Diet started garnering interest in the 1950s.

Essentially, it is an eating approach that people living in regions surrounding the Mediterranean Sea, such as Greece, Croatia, France and Italy, have naturally adopted due to culture and geographical factors like climate and agricultural harvests.

Fresh produce is at the heart of the diet, utilising staples such as olive oil, nuts, whole grains, legumes, seeds, vegetables and fruits.

Fish, seafood, dairy and red wine are consumed in moderation.

The general idea is to load up on healthy fats and omega-3 fatty acids; the plates are bursting with the colours of fresh whole foods.

Maria Steakcafe Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Angeline Tan said the inspiration behind their new Mediterranean menu came from wanting to encourage people to eat healthier during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Health is wealth.

“We need to equip ourselves with the best arsenal for a fighting chance against any illnesses, which in this case is our natural immune system,” she adds.
