Good ol’ taste of Christmas classics

Roast Turkey with Honey, Herb and Chestnut Stuffing.

EVERY Christmas, I look forward to the variety of delectable offerings at restaurants in the city.

One World Hotel Petaling Jaya’s Cinnamon Coffee House is one particular place I enjoy going to.

Having visited the coffeehouse on a rainy day, the hearty Potato, Leek and Chicken Cream Soup with Chestnut proved to be the perfect start to my meal.

For mains, the buffet offers choices such as Roast Lamb Meat with Apple Pear Chutney and Cranberry Sauce, Seafood Au Gratin, Baked Sea Bass with Garlic Paste and Mushroom Vinaigrette and Seared Beef and Oxtail Marmalade with Natural Jus.

I was glad that my personal favourites — Chicken Cordon Bleu with Mushroom Sauce and Buttered Glaze Brussels Sprout, Baby Carrot and Roasted Pumpkin — were still on the menu.

At the carving station, diners can relish the Crusted Roast Strip Loin and Christmas buffet staple — Roast Turkey with Honey, Herb and Chestnut Stuffing.

However, the part I looked forward to the most was of course, the dessert section.

Going through the sweet offerings, it was as if Christmas had come early.

Diners were spoiled for choice with sweet treats like Chocolate and Raspberry Yule Log, Christmas Gingerbread, Mince Pie, Christmas Pudding, Christmas Fruit Cake, Stollen, Berry Crumble Bread, Apple Custard Chocolate Bread with Vanilla Sauce and Hazelnut Twisted Bread.

As someone who loves trying new ice cream flavours, I was excited to find homemade lychee and peach ice cream and raspberry sorbet among the desserts.

The sweet and sour sorbet certainly did not disappoint; other diners were also seen queuing up for the homemade flavours.

The pasta section offers choices like Pasta Funghi, Pasta Arrabiata, Pasta Vongole and the chef will whip it up for you on the spot.

The fruit section was also popular among diners and the juicy strawberries caught my attention.

At the Japanese corner, take your pick from an assortment of sushi, sashimi and tempura. There is also a turkey salad with mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and edamame.

If you still have space for more, there’s turkey pizza and German sausages.

The coffee machine offers more than the common black coffee so I opted to end the night with hot chocolate and cappuccino.

Today’s Christmas Day Eve and tomorrow’s Christmas Day Buffet Dinner (6.30pm to 10.30pm) is priced at RM168 per adult, RM89 per child (aged six to 12 years) while the Christmas Day High Tea on Dec 25 (noon to 4pm) is priced at RM118 per adult and RM64 per child.
