END-of-the-year festivities are upon us and there are many ways to celebrate with family and friends.
Sunway Putra Hotel in Kuala Lumpur has crafted buffet menus for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve as well as Christmas Day and New Year’s Day high tea at its Coffee House.
The star of the buffet, to me, are the delectable and colourful desserts such as Christmas pudding, mango panna cotta, yam mousse cake and a variety of Christmas cookies.
What makes them enticing is the way they are prettily decorated in a range of bright colours in keeping with the joyous festivities. While savouring these offerings, I enjoyed that the desserts had the right amount of sweetness and richness to tantalise taste buds with pleasant hints of spice in the Christmas cookies.
Sunway Putra Hotel executive chef Rossham Rusli said the buffet menus were inspired by traditional family Christmas gatherings.
“We have main courses consisting of shepherd’s pie, chicken roulade, beef stew and turkey casserole which are traditionally served at home for Christmas and New Year.
“Of course we have roast turkey, the most important element of a Christmas meal. It takes four hours to prepare the turkey, ” he said.
One of the buffet highlights is the carving station where customers can enjoy freshly cut meats and vegetables.
The Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve buffet dinners will feature roast turkey with cranberry and giblet sauces, oven-baked ribeye with mustard and black pepper sauce and Honey Glazed Meatloaf with Brown Sauce with Yorkshire Pudding.
The roast turkey is definitely a dish to look out for.
The meat packed with the classic home-cooked flavours is tender and not dry.
I found the turkey with giblet sauce paired perfectly with the sauce, making the meat somewhat moist.
The meatloaf with Yorkshire pudding will be served at the carving station for the Christmas Day and New Year’s Day buffet high tea.
All the sauces are served on the side so diners have a choice of eating the meat plain or drenched in sauce. One of the chef’s recommendations from the dinner menu is the English Lobster Bisque with Garlic Toast Stick.
The bisque is creamy with generous portions of lobster chunks and is a must-try for seafood lovers.
Along with the classics, both menus also offer an assortment of sandwiches, local fare, pasta, sushi and barbeque options.
The high tea menus are a lighter affair, focusing more on appetisers and desserts compared to the dinner menus which have a wider selection of main courses.
The Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve buffet dinners, served from 6pm to 10pm, are priced at RM128nett per person.
There is an early-bird offer of RM75 on the buffet dinner for the first 200 guests to make a reservation.
As for the Christmas Day and New Year’s Day high tea buffet, it is priced at RM79nett per person, served from noon to 4pm.
Children below seven years old get to dine free at the festive buffets, while senior citizens and children aged eight to 12 are charged half price.
