CHRISTMAS buffets at hotels usually feature a lavish selection of desserts to entice guests.

Yule log cake, chocolate mousse cake, fruit tarts, custard pudding and fruit cakes are some of the must-have treats during this season.

The Christmas buffet at Sunway Putra Hotel’s Coffee House restaurant sets the tone for this.

Its executive chef Muhammad Sunny Choo Abdullah, who recently joined the restaurant, could not be more excited to share his culinary vision.

“I made sure the ingredients were authentic to reflect the traditions and meaning of the dishes,” he said.

The Kuala Lumpur hotel’s senior general manager Wilfred Yeo said the buffet also featured traditional dishes from various communities in Malaysia.

“We want to offer a multitude of flavours that reflect our country’s diversity,” he said.

Dessert lovers must not miss the Avocado Mousse with its creamy texture and subtle flavour. The lightness of the mousse was refreshing.

The Poached Pear with Vanilla and Cinnamon combined the natural sweetness of pears with the warmth of vanilla.

Meanwhile, the spice of cinnamon added a comforting touch, making it a perfect festive treat.

Diners can also choose the Christmas Pudding with Custard Sauce. The rich traditional pudding was elevated by the luscious, velvety custard sauce.

Those with a penchant for nutty and cheesy delights can look for the Hazelnut Cheese Mousse.

The hazelnut flavour complemented the silky smooth texture of the mousse.

The White Forest Cake offered a twist on the classic Black Forest cake.

Another must-try was the Apple Baked Cheesecake which combined the richness of traditional cheesecake with the familiar flavour of apple.

The tartness of the fruit cut through the sweetness, creating a well-balanced and satisfying dessert.

The crispy crust added an extra layer of texture.

The Double Chocolate Mousse was a decadent delight for chocolate lovers while the Carrot Cake was a nod to a classic favourite.

Moist and generously spiced, the cake was adorned with a cream cheese frosting that added a delightful tang.

The inclusion of walnuts or pecans provided a satisfying crunch.

For those who enjoy a fruitier taste, the Hummingbird Cake will ignite the senses with its blend of tropical fruits. The cream cheese frosting added a touch of familiarity.

The Mixed Fruit Tart was another visually appealing dessert with the buttery tart shell containing luscious pastry cream and a medley of fresh fruits.

The restaurant also offered plenty of hearty main courses.

Available are roast lamb and roast turkey, which comes with a selection of four sauces — shallot, black pepper, gibbet and mint.

Expertly grilled to perfection, the Fish Fillet ala Plancha with Chermoula sauce had a combination of zesty and herby notes.

The Risotto with Mushroom was a creamy treat infused with the earthly flavours of fresh mushrooms.

Succulent and tender, the Duck Leg Confit was a symphony of taste and texture when paired with roasted potatoes and split pea stew.

As for the Scallop and Prawn Thermidor, it was bursting with oceanic flavours.

Guaranteed to steal the spotlight was the Dauphinoise, the classic French accompaniment comprising potato slices baked to perfection with cream and cheese.

Other main dishes included Fish Head Curry, Salmon Gravlax, Poached Salmon and Buttered Prawn.

The dinner buffet is priced at RM139nett for adults and RM69.50 for children on Dec 23, RM149nett for adults and RM74.50 for children on Dec 24.
