MEAT skewers, poolside chargrilled stations and the majestic view of the yellowish-red sun setting against the Petaling Jaya skyline checks all the boxes as reasons to dine at a rooftop bar.

Introducing Sizzling Sundays, Sheraton Petaling Jaya Hotel’s Sala Bar is offering diners no-frills yet sumptuous grills designed to help guests relax and recharge.

With 12 meat selections, the menu crafted by executive chef Brian Bennet Chong and his team highlights a variety of world flavours, such as Middle Eastern Lamb Koobideh (RM38nett), Chinese-style Hoisin Smoked Duck Breast (RM35nett) and Mexican Beef Fajitas (RM38nett).

Of course, no grill is complete without Malaysian satay (RM30nett for six pieces).

Hotel executive sous chef Muhammad Faizal Abdullah said the end of the week calls for a celebration to unwind and chill by the poolside.

“Diners can enjoy an assortment of meats at the satay corner, grill station and skewer section.

“Using fresh ingredients, we wanted to feature some of favourite chargrilled items that Malaysians like,” he said.

Start off with teriyaki salmon skewers (RM38nett) or grilled spicy chicken wings (RM28nett).

A staple at Japanese restaurants, the teriyaki salmon was a delight as the sweet-savoury sauce complemented the fatty fish well.

The spicy chicken wings had a light hint of spice so it could have been paired with a slightly hotter sauce.

One of my favourites was the Chinese-style Hoisin Smoked Duck Breast.

The savoury marinade brought the smoked duck to another level as the flavourful meat was bursting with umami.

Muhammad Faizal said one of the guests’ favourites was the tandoori sea bass skewer.

“For the marinade, we use yoghurt, lemon, assorted spices, salt and pepper before firing up the fish on the grill,” he said.

Despite cooking on high heat, the fish was cooked to perfection and a squeeze of lemon heightened its flavour further.

Beef and chicken satay served with sweet peanut sauce did not disappoint either.

Other selections include char siew lamb skewer (RM38nett), king prawns with chilli butter (RM38nett), grilled curry and lime marinated quail (RM38nett), beef kofta skewer (RM28nett) and chermoula marinated chicken skewer (RM28nett).

These skewers have complimentary sides including naan, grilled pineapple, mixed mesclun salad with roasted sesame dressing, and remoulade sauce.

For a la carte orders, prices per skewer range from RM28+.

For larger groups, guests may select up to five grilled items and create their own platter for RM170nett.

Sizzling Sunday is from 6pm to 9pm every Sunday.
