Gaga over grilled goodies

Every Thursday, Serena Brasserie offers grilled dishes to draw in diners.

IMAGINE the soft hissing sound of meats sizzling, accompanied by an aroma of herbs mixed with spices wafting through the air.

As you take in this atmosphere, you’ll notice plenty of traditional dishes with ethnic influences.

A variety of cakes and puddings are also served nearby, tempting with their bright colours.

This is the experience that awaits diners at Serena Brasserie in InterContinental Kuala Lumpur.

Launched last month, “Go-Grill Thursday” buffet features grilled dishes every Thursday.

The grilled meats and seafood are served on banana leaves to preserve their smoky flavour.

Diners should start with the marinated steaks, which retain their tender and juicy qualities.

The meats are delicate and fall apart at the touch of a fork, satisfying carnivorous cravings.

They can be enjoyed on their own or with rice, like the fragrant Chicken Mandy Rice.

Deserving of mention is the lamb shoulder that is characterised by a slightly salty taste and flaky texture.

Grilled prawns marinated with spicy Thai herbs will surely leave an impression on seafood lovers.

Other grilled dishes include snapper fish, baby squid, tandoori quail and local favourites namely satay and otak-otak.

There are also smoked sausages and chicken wings, served alongside three sauces: thyme, barbecue and black pepper.

For something to pair these dishes with, the Char Siew Chicken Fried Rice is a perfect choice.

The rice is fluffy, with sweet and slightly salty qualities that balance out the charred taste of the grilled meats.

For those looking for something more traditional, the Daging Salai Masak Lemak Cili Api is highly recommended.

While a tad spicy, the succulent chicken meat is worth taking the heat.

Diners who are eager to turn up the spice levels should opt for the Lamb Masala and Eggplant Chilli Paste that has a sweet and sour taste.

The Kung Po Bean Curd, meanwhile, is a healthier option with its generous offering of capsicum and onion in light soy sauce.

As for desserts, there is a wide array of treats that will surely tempt those with a sweet tooth.

Top of the list is the Peach Crumble, that has a hard exterior but soft on the inside, served alongside a light, creamy vanilla sauce.

The Corn Pudding is buttery and light, while the Cream Brulee has a velvety texture that is not too sweet.

Other desserts include Pineapple Tarts and Exotic Mousse Cakes, as well as Coconut Mousse and Pistachio Pave.

There is also a chocolate fountain with dried fruits, mini macaroons and marshmallows to dip into the liquid.

This dining experience, available from 6pm to 10pm, is priced at RM168+ (adults) and RM84+ (children).
