The festive menu at Yue restaurant in Sheraton Petaling Jaya Hotel gets the Shanghai treatment this Chinese New Year.

Some of the dishes are ideal when paired with Peddlers Gin’s Sichuan Negroni.

The Peddlers Gin brand originates from Shanghai, China, and is one of the ingredients used in the Sichuan Negroni cocktail.

The hotel’s Chinese cuisine chef Ben Lim said he wanted to serve dishes that were not commonly found here.

“Some of the dishes were crafted around the Sichuan Negroni.

“Braised Shanghai Baked Tofu with Peanut Combination of Marinated Fish and Braised Fried Chicken Meatball with Sweet Sauce are examples of Shanghainese dishes that we have prepared,” he said.

Interestingly, the baked tofu is dark brown in colour and more flavourful than our local version.

As an alternative to shark’s fin soup, the restaurant crafted Braised Sliced Top Shells Soup with Dried Seafood and Dried Scallop.

The generous portion of seafood makes the dish satisfying.

Lim takes pride in his Braised Fried Chicken Meatball with Sweet Sauce.

This is a Shanghainese dish that goes well with Sichuan Negroni.

This writer’s favourite dish was Deep-fried Gold Pomfret with Butter Cream and Black Truffle, a welcome change from the common sweet and sour or steamed fish dishes.

Fried rice and noodles are a staple at reunion dinners but at Yue, we were served individual parcels of Steamed Lotus Leaf Rice with Waxed Duck and Chinese Chicken Sausage.

Another favourite was the Chilled Pear with Lotus Seeds and Red Dates served with Deep-fried Chinese New Year Cake with Yam and Sweet Potatoes, which were good together.

All dishes are served individually so guests have less contact with others while enjoying their meal.

The Yue Sensational Shanghai eight-course set menu is available until Feb 20 and priced at RM268nett per person.

The Sichuan Negroni is RM43nett per glass.
