THE mention of Sunday brunch conjures up delightful images of hearty portions, flaky pastries and decadent desserts.
With restrictions on gatherings and dine-ins lifted, a Sunday brunch is the ideal setting to catch up with loved ones and unwind before the start of the week.
One such place is Mosaic at Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur as the restaurant celebrates its 10th anniversary throughout October.
Its Sunday Brunch buffet includes a wide array of seafood such as freshly shucked oysters, poached prawns, crayfish, scallops, slipper lobsters, clams and blue mussels.
A unique highlight of the celebration is the 10 creative interpretations of nasi lemak presented in interesting and imaginative ways.
This includes Nasi Lemak Cobb Salad, Vietnamese Roll Nasi Lemak with Poached Prawn Salad, Rendang Nasi Lemak Maki Roll, Nasi Lemak Risotto, Nasi Lemak Cheesecake and Rice Pudding Nasi Lemak.
The cobb salad makes for a hearty appetiser, with the familiar flavours of nasi lemak but amped up. Like a typical cobb salad, this one has fresh tomatoes, avocados, corn and boiled egg. It also included fried anchovies, red onions and sambal rice.
The crunchy and sweet vegetables are a pleasing accompaniment to the slightly spicy sambal and the salty anchovies.
The combination of flavours and textures worked well together, with every spoonful a new discovery.
I also enjoyed the Chinese-style Nasi Lemak, which included deepfried chicken, stir-fried cabbage and anchovy sambal.
The cheesecake, too, was surprisingly good, although the flavours of the nasi lemak were subtler here.
As these nasi lemak dishes are spread out over the buffet layout, have fun discovering where each variation is located and do try them out.
Further leaning into the theme of its 10th year in operation, Mosaic’s western live station offers dishes with a word play on “ten” such as Ten Hours Slow-roasted Prime Rib with Mustard and Parmesan Cheese Crust, Ten-der Baked Salmon in Puff Pastry, Ten Spices Baked Baby Chicken, Beef Ten-derloin Wellington, Ten-layer Lasagna and more.
At the Indian live station, diners can sample 10 varieties of curry such as Ten Spice Fish Head Curry, Kari Nyonya Itik Melaka and Thai Green Chicken Curry with Baby Eggplant, among others.
These curries can be eaten with freshly made naan and pappadum, alongside aromatic chutney and pickles.
Other dishes featured are sushi, barbecue delicacies and shawarma as well as numerous Western, Malay and Chinese offerings.
The Sunday Brunch buffet is priced at RM228+ per person and takes place every Sunday this month on Oct 17, 24 and 31 from noon to 3.30pm.
Guests at the Sunday Brunch are invited to try their hand at winning one of the 10 lucky draw prizes every Sunday.
Besides that, children born on Oct 10, 2011 can eat for free, and for every 10 paying guests, in a group, is entitled to a free meal for two additional diners.
