Treasure trove of exciting flavours

Restaurant Blanc’s new Treasure Trove four and six-course seasonal menus feature creations like Black Forest (front) and Daily Fresh ‘Poisson’ (back). Wine pairing is also available.

THE new seasonal menu of Restaurant Blanc at Macalister Mansion is a trove of delicious gems that will excite discerning gourmands in Penang.

Inspired by chef de cuisine Benny Yeoh’s heritage and culinary creativity, the dishes utilise top quality ingredients and are presented in fine French-Asian style.

Starring among the appetisers are the Ocean Trout delicately paired with buttermilk, dill and pickled veggies, and New Zealand Langoustine lightly teased with Hollandaise, jamon and sage for sweet herbal delight.

Yeoh also refreshed the popular Hokkaido Scallop dish from the previous menu with crustacean curry, green peas and natural jus.

Into the woods next with his umami-packed Wild Mushroom that has a 65°C poached farm egg, kohlrabi and truffle jus for company.

The char-grilled Australian Wagyu Tongue with ginger, chive flower and ponzu offers a harmony of sweet, sour and spicy flavours.

For mains, there are three intriguing options.

Among them is Grilled Olive Pork which is a belly cut that has been slow-cooked and smoked for 14 hours.

It is then given a final char- grilling that leaves it intensely savoury and succulent.

Or let Yeoh surprise you with his Daily Fresh ‘Poisson’.

Do not be intimidated by the name as ‘poisson’ is merely French for fish.

Chef Yeoh sources what is fresh in the market, crisps it up and serves it with Jerusalem artichoke, porcini mushrooms and Shaoxing wine.

For the adventurous, he recommends Tokushima A5 Wagyu with baby spinach, leek and sweetbread (the thymus gland from the calf).

A notable ingredient in French cuisine, the sweetbread is expertly grilled to ensure every bite oozes rich and savoury juices.

After a pre-dessert course, diners with a sweet tooth will be charmed by the Black Forest made from Belgian chocolate, cherry and kirsch.

Petit fours ensure a blissful end.

Enjoy these epicurean creations in the four-course Discovery Menu (RM278+) or six-course Degustation Menu (RM368+).

Accentuate the meal with wine pairings for an additional RM80+.

Restaurant Blanc is listed as one of Tatler Dining’s Best Restaurants for 2021, and has also won two interior design awards.

It is open every Tuesday to Sunday from 7pm to 11pm.

Reservations are advised.
