Wholesome fusion-style delights

WHOLESOME, healthy and thoughtfully prepared food with homemade sauces is the order of the day at Sauce of Soul (SOS) in Penang.

Tucked away inside Penang Golf Club (PGC) in Bukit Jambul, this delightful cafe serves delicious fusion-style cuisines that are made from all-natural ingredients.

“Everything here is made from scratch, especially our hearty signature sauces. The emphasis is on healthy cooking that captures the flavour and nutrients of food,” explained chef Evon Koay.

She added that all the cakes, pastries and chocolates are baked on-site while most of the greens and herbs used are harvested from PGC’s very own chemical-free vegetable plots.

And SOS also specialises in artisan chocolates that are ideal as wedding and corporate gifts besides made-to-order cakes and a wide selection of freshly baked breads and Swiss rolls.

Breakfast is served from 7am to 11am daily. Available are bento sets such as French toast, cheese omelette, croissant, assorted sandwiches and English muffin.

Those who prefer something local should try the Breakfast by the Greens selections including wholemeal toast with butter and kaya, nasi lemak and roti jala.

From 11am until closing at 9pm, indulge your palate with creations consisting of BBQ pulled chicken baguette, egg mayo croissant, Hawaiian chicken pizza, ham and cheese quiche, grilled chicken chop with black pepper sauce, and pandan curry egg noodle soup with seafood.

New additions to the menu include Oh My Duck (smoked duck topped with cheese, crispy ham, sweet chilli mayo and caramelised onion on charcoal buns), Vietnamese banh mi (smoked duck or char siew chicken filling) and smoked salmon cheesy ciabatta pizza.

The duck burger is simply smashing. The marinade is on point and the crispy ham is the perfect foil for the smoked duck.

The pork-free SOS has also introduced a three-course set lunch priced from RM19++ and five-course set dinner from RM25++. The former is available from 11am to 3pm and the latter from 6pm to 9pm daily.

Sit back and enjoy a satisfying meal complemented by an extensive choice of beverages including freshly bottled cold pressed juices. The variety of coffee flavours, brewed from the famous Amelonado beans of Sao Tome, is a must-try.

Located just beside the guard house at the main entrance to PGC, SOS is actually the rebranding of the renowned Chocolate Passion that was established in Penang in 2011.
