The spread served at Garden Cafe every Friday from 6.30pm to 10pm is based mainly on Kedahan cuisine, executive sous chef Rizal Masir said.
“There are many heritage dishes and interpretations not typically found in restaurants. We prepare them just like how our mothers would.
“These traditional home-cooked favourites come from recipes passed down by elderly relatives. It allows us to keep their culinary legacy alive,” he added.
Many of the items were featured in last year’s well-received Selera Kampung festive buffet.
Making it available weekly means guests can savour comforting local flavours outside the festive month.
Chef Rizal believes in cooking from the heart and maintaining the essence of a dish — and his signature Ikan Asam Pedas Melaka is sure to have diners salivating.
The buffet has 10 stations overall, starting with appetisers such as acar, ulam-ulam, jeruk, kerabu, and perhaps Sup Ketam Daun Saderi.
Have your share of a local favourite at the Warung Pasembur, or Mee Rebus Muar and Bihun Sup Kedah from the Warung Mee.
Main dishes could include Nasi Briyani Udang, Nasi Tomato, Ayam Rendang Minang, Udang Masak Lemak Cili Padi Nenas, Roasted Lamb Stew, Sayur Goreng Campur and the specialty — Itik Masak Hijau.
Venture to the Warung Bakar-Bakar at the garden terrace outside to find Kambing Guling, Satay Ayam, Satay Lembu and Ayam Pasu sizzling over hot coals.
Next to it, the Warung Nelayan offers fish and clams grilled with pandan leaves. Air assam, sambal or cili kicap are the condiments.
Colourful and decadent sweets ensure a satisfying end to the feast. Kuih Sago Merah, Bingka Pandan, Agar-agar Cendol, Agar-agar Bandung, Puding Gula Hangus, Ais Batu Campur are just some of the possibilities.
The Kampung Buffet is priced at RM118 for adults and RM59 for children.
