THOSE heading out of town on Christmas Day and foresee missing out on the various buffet offerings, need not fret.

The Christmas dinner at Wild Rice Restaurant, St Giles Hotels at The Boulevard Hotel Kuala Lumpur has been scheduled for Dec 20 to give patrons a chance to indulge in an early festive meal.

Executive sous chef Jong Zhi Sheng said the buffet would include Western dishes from the appetisers to desserts.

“For starters, we have prawn bisque and mushroom soup, an assortment of bread with truffle butter on the side and a selection of bruschetta.

“Different salads as well as seafood on ice such as mussels, oysters, scallops, prawns and crayfish will also be served,” he said.

A plump juicy prawn with prawn bisque will be served at the soup station.

Creamy and comforting, the soup’s rich prawn flavour makes it wonderfully good on its own or relished with bread. Other notable appetisers like the bite-sized creamy mayo tuna in shell, mushroom bruschetta and scrambled eggs with spicy dressing on toast are recommended.

The buffet highlights such as freshly cooked pasta, grilled items and roasts can be found at the action stations.

“Guests can have their choice of pasta cooked in either carbonara, marinara or aglio olio styles and they can also choose their preferred condiments.

“At the grill station we will have steak, salmon and chicken, while the carving station will present roast turkey and lamb.

“Pies and pizzas will also be served that day,” he said.

Although I am not fond of meat, the sauces laid out at the carving station are worth coming back to. They were tasty and prompted me to try the roast turkey and lamb.

While the barbecue sauce was good, the giblet and cranberry sauces were the ones that caught my attention. The thick and flavourful giblet sauce was luscious and enjoyable. The cranberry sauce on the other hand, featured chunks of cranberry and was infused with lemon and orange to provide extra texture and tanginess.

Yoghurt mint sauce was available for the roast lamb with a combination of sides such as grilled vegetables, curly fries, sauerkraut and buttered rice to complete the experience.

To end the meal, diners have sweet options to turn to with Christmas cookies, mini mince pies, yule log, Christmas stollen, puddings and fruit cakes, to name a few.

The Christmas buffet, from 6.30pm to 10pm, is priced at RM98 nett per person and RM69 for senior citizens. Children aged seven and below eat for free.

Special mocktails are available at RM18 nett for the first glass and RM2 nett for the second glass.
