Wagyu this season’s must-have

A gingerbread man adds that whimsical touch to the buffet.

The tender and succulent Wagyu beef karubi (boneless short rib) and strip loin are a treat not to be missed this Christmas.

Slow-roasted to perfection, the imported Australian beef was a delight and its grade six marbling reveals robust and rich flavours.

Its pinkish medium-rare flesh and originality in taste with minimal seasoning keeps a meat lover like me extremely happy.

“The beef is marinated with just a dash of Cajun and dried herbs. It is left overnight before being roasting.

“The meat gives a lovely spiced aroma that wafts through the air.

“Every festive season, we look for something new and this year, we are pleased to highlight our range of Wagyu beef, ” said Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa executive chef Peter Lee.

To elevate the dish further, dip it into truffle mustard sauce with a sourish vinaigrette taste or go for something safe like crushed pepper sauce.

“Diners can also request the meat to be prepared to their preferred doneness.

“We also have Wagyu beef shawarma using beef karubi as the main filling before topping it with pickle, onion, salad, tomatoes, garlic and sesame dressing, ” he said.

This festive season at The Resort Cafe at Sunway Resort Hotel and Spa, Sunway City features a range of Wagyu dishes such as braised and glazed Wagyu ribs, Wagyu shawarma, Wagyu beef rib soup with local spices as well as other meat selections like Roasted Brined Turkey with Dried Fruit Stuffing, Grilled Lamb Shoulder with Pommery Mustard Jus, Slow-cooked Duck Breast with Truffle Jus and Whole Lamb on Briyani Rice.

Start the delectable buffet by warming your palate with Chestnut Portobello Mushroom Potage, Pumpkin and Apple Bisque with Gingerbread Croutons or a heavier protein bowl of Wagyu Beef Rib Soup with local spices.

The portobello mushroom potage is thick and creamy with soft crouton bits drenched in the soup but the pumpkin and apple bisque gives a totally opposite taste, a refreshing and sweet broth that can easily pass off as comfort food for most people.

At the action station, the Risotto with Pesto Sauce and Parmesan await.

Flavoursome with sun-dried tomatoes that are rich in acidity, the risotto was appetising with savoury bits of beef bacon and smoked duck complementing the overall presentation.

The use of clam meat, mushroom and asparagus added texture and taste.

At the carving station, one can indulge in shawarma with spice and herbs marinated Wagyu beef with pickle, salad, diced onion, tomatoes and garlic. This serving of meat goes well with sesame dressing.

The juicy meat oozed beefy flavour on steam buns and paired flawlessly with the salad making it simply mouthwatering.

Other mains include Slow-cooked Duck Breast on Truffle Jus, Sauteed Brussels Sprouts with Almond Butter and Green Beans with Garlic Confit roasted Pimento.

Dessert lovers are definitely spoiled for choice with the variety of chocolates, red velvet and traditional yule log, tiramisu glass, mango compote panna cotta, blueberry compote panna cotta and Dresdner stollen cake.

Leading up to Christmas, the cafe’s “Let The Feasting Begin” lunch buffet (Dec 13 to Dec 23, excluding Sunday) is priced at RM68 nett per adult and RM40 nett per child aged between six and 12 years, while the dinner buffet is priced at RM125 nett per adult and RM78 nett per child.

For the “The Greatest Christmas Feast” on Christmas Eve, the dinner buffet is priced at RM168 nett per adult and RM88 nett per child.

On Christmas Day, the lunch buffet is priced at RM98 nett per person and RM68 nett per child while the dinner buffet will be served at RM128 nett per adult and RM78 nett per child.

Meanwhile, the New Year’s Eve buffet dinner is priced at RM158 nett per adult and RM68 nett per child while the Supper Countdown buffet is RM78 nett per adult and RM58 nett per child and served from 11pm to 1am.

There will also be a New Year High Tea Buffet from 12.30pm to 3.30pm priced at RM98 nett per adult and RM68 nett per child.

Lunch buffet service will be from 12.30pm to 2.30pm while dinner will start at 6.30pm and end at 10.30pm.
