I didn't know they still had Care-Bears movies or even shows; somehow I thought the bears just faded away happily over a clowd and a rainbow some time in the 1980s.
But, here they are again … you just can't keep a good bear down, especially if he lives in Care-a-lot.
In this movie, the bears are all excited because WooHoo World is about to open its doors. Oopsy, Cheer, Funshine, Share and Grumpy are finalising the last touches to Care-a-lot's amusement park.
Unfortunately, Oopsy – being the clumsy bear that he is – has one or two accidents that lead to the Funderbolt rollercoaster ride being damaged and needing repair.
The other bears, not wanting to hurt Oopsy's feelings too much, ask him to go put up signs for visitors so that he'll be out of the way as they try to repair the Funderbolt.
Oopsy meets Wingnut – the sidekick/minion worker for Grizzle, a small bear who likes to wear a huge and tall metal suit and wants to steal the Care-bears' belly badges.
Grizzle tricks Oopsy into thinking he's helping his friends by assisting Wingnut to retrieve sunshine, a thunder cloud and a rainbow to complete the Caretaker fair ride.
The Caretaker is in fact a device that steals the Care-bears belly badges from them when they go inside for a ride.
Oopsy and Wingnut manage to catch and bottle sunshine and a thunder cloud but as for the rainbow … well, it ends up on Oopsy's rear end.
Grizzle isn't pleased because he needs a real rainbow.
Oopsy decides to call on Cheer – she'll help send out the rainbow beam after all. Thinking Oopsy needs help, Cheer zips over to him only to find Grizzle and the Caretaker facing her.
She is coerced into taking a ride on the Caretaker and after she emerges she finds her belly badge is gone!
Grizzle and Wingnut detain Oopsy and Cheer and make off for Care-a-lot with the Caretaker.
Will the other bears step inside the Caretaker? Will they all lose their belly badges? Who will save them?
This movie, obviously, is for the smaller children. Those aged five and below should enjoy it. It's got cute bears, fun rides, colourful scenes, an easy to understand plot, good bears and a bad bear ….
They will probably love it.
I'm not sure parents want to sit through this one. It might get a bit boring and predictable after a while and there's just so many times you can say “Awww!” when watching the Care-Bears.
