Golden Globes comes of age, gains Hollywood cred


For years it played second fiddle to the Oscars, but the Golden Globes have now risen in prestige to even influence Oscar voters – but no more Ricky Gervais.

Four years ago British comedian Ricky Gervais host turned his sharp tongue on voters of the Golden Globes, ridiculing them for nominating the poorly reviewed Johnny Depp-Angelina Jolie action thriller The Tourist. “I haven’t even seen The Tourist. Who has? It must be good because it’s nominated.” Needless to say, Gervais soured the 2011 awards – his last outing as host.
