Era of bright colours

On Retro 30 this week, we are revisiting the year when it was cool to wear fluorescent and neon clothing. Yeah, bright colours led the way to the era I’m taking you to. The year we’re talking about had not been a good one for Billy Joel and Gloria Estefan as they both got involved in serious car accidents. While it was not a good year for them, the artistes below had success coming to them in a flash.

  • Another Day in Paradise, Phil Collins: This is the first song that I fell in love with. Not only is the song melodious, it has great lyrics that touch the very core of your heart. It makes you want to do charity and help the poor. Lyrics were genuine and believable. I loved it even more when Brandy and Ray J covered it five years ago.

Phil Collins' Another Day in Paradise has great lyrics.

  • Blaze of Glory, Jon Bon Jovi: You would remember the song if you watched Young Guns 2. All the hot actors during that time were in the movie – Emilio Estevez, Kiefer Sutherland and Christian Slater. Well, I don’t know of anyone who dislikes Bon Jovi and Blaze of Glory was definitely one of his best songs.

  • All Around the World, Lisa Stansfield: After releasing several unsuccessful singles in her mid-teens, Lisa Stansfield finally got her breakthrough and became a huge star with All Around the World. Although it’s not my favourite song, it is catchy and I’ve got the lyrics tattooed to my brain. This song always reminds me to treat my man right because if I lose him, I know I won’t find my baby even if I go all around the world.

Blaze of Glory was one of Jon Bon Jovi’s best songs.

  • How Am I Supposed to Live Without You, Michael Bolton: I think you should know by now that I’m a sucker for classic love ballads. And Michael Bolton does have the sexy voice to carry a tune like that.

Paula Abdul dances with MC Skat Kat in Opposite Attracts.

  • Opposite Attracts, Paula Abdul: I don’t know what’s cheesier – this song or the video? Remember the colourful music video for this song? Paula dances with cartoon character MC Skat Kat and did you check out what she wore? All I want to know is who was her stylist? And you’re telling me she was once a cheerleader? I don’t believe it...

So if you like what I got for you this week – tune in to Retro 30 to listen to the tunes that will definitely bring back the good and bad memories.
