The Yardbirds, one of the grittier and more experimental outfits of the Beatles-led British invasion, often are remembered as the band that counted, in succession, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page among its lead guitarists.
But for all the acclaim accorded the blues and R&B-based instrumental rave-ups and groundbreaking guitar work supplied by the Clapton-Beck-Page triumvirate, what is often underappreciated is the content of the songs the Yardbirds recorded from 1963 to 1968, which included six Top 30 singles.
