The way reggae is treated in this country is most rudimentary, with most so-called reggae outfits skimming the surface of this genre and diluting the profound impact and worth of Robert Nesta Marley’s music and legacy. Much to the embarrassment of certain less-than-aware local artistes, it also helps to realise that there is more to reggae than just pitiful posturing or someone clueless decked in Jamaican colours claiming allegiance to a T-shirt and not the significant culture behind it.
The scene is set for an entirely different vibe when rock-reggae outfit Prana takes on the Saturday Live Series at Hard Rock Cafe in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow. The Ampang-based trio leads the line alongside guests – Damn Dirty Apes and Kluk Kluk Adventure – in what has to be one of the more relaxed, non-heavy guitar outings at the venue.
